A rare Scandinavian silhouette portrait ring, reverse-painted beneath glass over a vivid blue ground. The rectangular panel is framed by a finely executed verre églomisé gold border, all preserved in its original mount and shank.

The ring is accompanied by its original fitted box and an exceptional handwritten provenance record tracing an unbroken line of descent from the late 1700s to 1943. The notes identify the portrait as belonging to the Wadström family of Norrköping, beginning with Gustaf Fredrik Wadström (1762–1800) and his wife Anna Sofia Schröder (1779–1812), passing to their daughter Sophia Charlotta Wadström (1793–1870), and then through successive generations of the Carlsson family, ending with Fredrik Carlson, who documented the lineage in 1943.

An intimate work of sentimental portrait jewellery.

A rare survival not only for its artistry, but for the survival of its complete historical provenance.
