A rare early Javanese high-carat gold signet ring, dating from the 8th to 10th century AD, engraved with a stylised lotus motif. In Javanese culture, the lotus symbolised beauty, prosperity, purity, and fertility, and appears frequently in the art and jewellery of the Central Javanese Hindu–Buddhist kingdoms.

The ring’s form and engraving are characteristic of the period associated with the Sailendra and Mataram courts, where goldsmiths produced jewellery of remarkable refinement using exceptionally pure gold. Its survival in this condition is extraordinary, offering a direct connection to the spiritual and artistic world of early Java.

A powerful and culturally significant jewel from one of Southeast Asia’s most celebrated artistic eras.
