PROVENANCE:

This extraordinary piece boasts a rich and traceable history spanning two centuries, including its residence in the famed Rothschild collections:

• Baron Alphonse de Rothschild (1827 - 1905), hôtel Saint-
Florentin, Paris.

• Baron Édouard de Rothschild (1868 - 1949), hôtel Saint-
Florentin, Paris.

• Confiscated during the Nazi occupation of France in May 1940 (ERR no. R 2494).

• Recovered from the Altaussee salt mines in Austria by the
Monuments Fine Arts and Archives Section in 1945 (MCCP no.1371/28).

• Returned to France in 1946 and restituted to the Rothschild family.

• Passed down through the family by descent.
